Henry Winkler Awarded O.B.E.
Henry Winkler is awarded an O.B.E by the
British Ambassador to Washington, Nigel Sheinwald.
Henry Winkler, 65, best known for his
character, The Fonz on the hit
TV sitcom, ''Happy Days'' has
been awarded an honorary
O.B.E at the British Embassy in
Washington for his work on
dyslexia in the U.K.
Dyslexia is a cause close to the American
actor's heart-- Winkler struggled with
school as a child-- it was only later on in
his life that he discovered he in fact was
dyslexic himself! Nowadays there's more
awareness of such conditions!
The Guardian newspaper reports:
Henry has also written books for children about
Hank Zipzer, a boy with dyslexia, whose experiences
are based on the actor's own childhood struggles.
In a statement on the Embassy's website,
Winkler said:
"Receiving this honour is a very humbling experience.
"My goal when I started working with children
was never to bring accolades on myself,
but instead to change how people think about those
around them for whom learning is a struggle''.
Congrats Henry!
You're truly an inspiration
to us all! Thanks to you
kids who have dyslexia
won't feel alone! There's
great learning support
available to them now!
Keep up the good work!
